SpeechTherapyMagic vs Ultimate SLP

The verdict, up front

SpeechTherapyMagic fits parents and SLPs with a small caseload who mostly work on speech sounds and want each spoken attempt scored and saved by sound, while Ultimate SLP is the better buy for a big real-photo library and group games across articulation, language and social goals.

Ultimate SLP is the broader library by a long way. SpeechTherapyMagic is smaller but does one thing Ultimate SLP does not describe at all: it listens to the word and scores it. For a big caseload, Ultimate SLP also costs less, because it does not charge per student.

We build SpeechTherapyMagic and are not affiliated with Ultimate SLP. Its facts were checked against ultimateslp.com in October 2026.

What scoring looks like in SpeechTherapyMagic

Real screens from the app on a phone. We do not reproduce Ultimate SLP's screens here; its homepage shows its cards and games.

Beanstalk Bounce on a phone: a picture of soup, the word soup and a Tap to record button
A game asks for the word…
Pronunciation practice result for the word soap: 94 out of 100
…scores the attempt out of 100…
The sound breakdown for soap: a score for /s/, /ow/ and /p/
…and shows a score for each sound in the word.

Where each one falls short

Ultimate SLP is a library, not a data system. Its site describes no progress tracking and no feedback on how a word was said, so data collection stays on you. Its own homepage gives two different counts for both its images (10,000+ and 40,000+) and its games (55+ and 100+), so treat the headline numbers as approximate.

SpeechTherapyMagic is a much smaller library, it is speech-sound first, and its per-student pricing gets expensive past a few students. The scoring needs a microphone and a reasonably quiet room. The score is practice feedback, not an assessment: it is not a clinical measure, it has not been validated on disordered child speech, and it does not detect distortions, so your ear still decides.

If you are weighing Ultimate SLP against Boom Cards instead, the Ultimate SLP alternatives guide covers Boom, SLP Now and The Digital SLP with the same checked prices.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is SpeechTherapyMagic or Ultimate SLP better?
They solve different problems. Ultimate SLP is a large materials library (it advertises over 40,000 real-life images and 500+ built-in card decks) for articulation, language and social communication. SpeechTherapyMagic is narrower: speech-practice games that score each spoken attempt and save the result by sound. If you want breadth across goal areas, Ultimate SLP wins. If you want practice that records how each word sounded, SpeechTherapyMagic fits better.
How much does Ultimate SLP cost?
Ultimate SLP lists $12.95 a month, or $139.92 a year on its annual membership, after a 14-day free trial. Teams can ask for a group quote. We checked its homepage and sign-up pages in October 2026.
Which one is cheaper for a full caseload?
Ultimate SLP, for a large caseload. Its membership has no student limit stated, while SpeechTherapyMagic includes 3 student profiles and charges $4.99 a month for each extra student, up to 10. For 10 students that is $499.15 a year with us against $139.92 with Ultimate SLP. For one child or a small caseload, SpeechTherapyMagic is cheaper at $79.99 a year.
Does Ultimate SLP track student progress?
We found no data collection or progress tracking described on Ultimate SLP's site in October 2026. It presents itself as a materials library. Check with them if data matters to you.
Does SpeechTherapyMagic diagnose speech errors?
No. The score is practice feedback, not an assessment: it is not a clinical measure, it has not been validated on disordered child speech, and it does not detect distortions, so your ear still decides.
Is Ultimate SLP good for teletherapy?
It is web-based, so it works over screen-share, and its games take up to 6 players. SpeechTherapyMagic also runs in the browser, so it works the same way over screen-share, but it has no multi-player mode.
