Buyer’s guide for SLPs •

Best AI Tools for Speech Therapists (2026)

AI saves SLPs time in three places: drafting text (goals, letters, materials), writing session notes, and building materials. No one tool does all three, and the general chatbots are better at some of it than the SLP-branded tools. Here is which to use for what.

The short answer

  1. 1ChatGPT or Claude — best for flexible drafting: word lists, parent letters, goal wording, ideas. (Free; $20/mo paid)
  2. 2MagicSchool — best for a free all-round AI toolkit for school-based SLPs. (Free; Plus $12.99/mo)
  3. 3Speech Therapy Magic (Magic Studio) — best for turning a description into a playable speech activity. ($9.99/mo or $79.99/yr after a 7-day trial)
  4. 4SLPFlow — best for SLP-specific session notes from a recording or your notes. ($20/mo or $200/yr)
  5. 5Ambiki — best for private practices that want EMR, billing, teletherapy and an AI scribe together. ($59/user/mo)
  6. 6Diffit — best for leveled reading passages and questions for language goals. (Free; $14.99/mo)

Use a general assistant (ChatGPT or Claude) for drafting, MagicSchool if you want free teacher tools in one place, an SLP scribe such as SLPFlow for notes, and Speech Therapy Magic when the thing you want at the end is an interactive activity the student plays and speaks into.

The 6 picks, reviewed

1

ChatGPT or Claude

Best for: flexible drafting: word lists, parent letters, goal wording, ideas

General AI assistants. With a good prompt they draft sound-loaded word lists, social stories, parent letters, therapy ideas and first drafts of goal wording faster than any specialist tool, and they explain research in plain language.

Price
Both have free tiers. Claude Pro is $20/month, or $17/month billed yearly (claude.com). ChatGPT Plus is widely listed at $20/month; OpenAI's pricing page did not load for our check, so confirm there.
Platform
Web, desktop and mobile apps.

Honest limitation: Output is text, not a playable activity, and it can be confidently wrong about norms and research. The consumer plans are not built for student records, so leave names and identifying details out of every prompt.

2

MagicSchool

Best for: a free all-round AI toolkit for school-based SLPs

An AI platform for educators with dozens of ready-made tools for lesson materials, rubrics, parent emails and IEP drafting, designed for school use.

Price
Free plan; Plus $12.99/month or $99.96/year ($8.33/month); school and district plans quoted.
Platform
Web browser.

Honest limitation: Built for classroom teachers: it has an IEP tool but nothing specific to speech sounds, articulation or language therapy.

3

Speech Therapy Magic (Magic Studio)Our product

Best for: turning a description into a playable speech activity

A page from a Story Builder story, illustrated and loaded with target-sound words

Deck briefs: describe the deck you want (targets, age, theme) in a short form and Magic Studio builds an interactive draft deck from our speech library, which you then edit and share by PIN. Story Builder writes and illustrates a short story loaded with a child's target sound. Decks can carry pronunciation targets, so the student's spoken attempts are scored.

Price
A 7-day free trial of everything with no card needed, then $9.99/month or $79.99/year ($6.67/month billed yearly). There is no free plan.
Platform
Web browser on iPad, iPhone, Android, Chromebook, Mac and PC. No native app yet; it installs to the home screen as a web app.

What it does well

  • Produces a playable, shareable activity rather than text to copy into slides
  • Pictures come from a reviewed speech word library
  • Students join by PIN, with no account

Honest limitation: Limited to 5 deck briefs and 20 stories a month, every draft still needs your review, and it is not a notes, goals or documentation tool.

4

SLPFlow

Best for: SLP-specific session notes from a recording or your notes

Turns session recordings or typed notes into SOAP, DAP, BIRP, IEP progress or narrative notes, built for speech therapy. Claims HIPAA compliance and offers a BAA.

Price
Basic $20/month or $200/year; Professional $49/month or $490/year (adds goal drafts and custom templates). 14-day trial, no card.
Platform
Web, iPhone and iPad.

Honest limitation: A young, specialist product, and like every AI scribe it can miss the nuance of play-based paediatric sessions, so every note needs your review.

5

Ambiki

Best for: private practices that want EMR, billing, teletherapy and an AI scribe together

Practice-management and EMR software for paediatric SLPs, OTs and PTs, with an AI Scribe on its Professional plan, plus optional teletherapy and therapy tools.

Price
Professional $59/user/month (includes AI Scribe); Professional (Limited) $25/user/month; teletherapy add-on $20/user/month. 30-day free trial.
Platform
Web browser.

Honest limitation: An EMR first: expensive if you only want the AI, and the add-ons stack up.

6

Diffit

Best for: leveled reading passages and questions for language goals

Generates a reading passage at a chosen level on any topic, with vocabulary and comprehension questions, which language-focused SLPs adapt for sessions.

Price
Free Basic (only content from the last 90 days stays accessible); individual $14.99/month or $149.99/year; schools quoted.
Platform
Web browser.

Honest limitation: A general teacher tool with no speech-sound targeting.

Plain prompts or a specialist tool?

A general chatbot with a good prompt beats most SLP-branded AI for drafting text. Specialist tools earn their price when the output has to be something other than text: a note in the right format inside your records system, or an activity a child can play.

Whatever you use, keep student names and identifying details out of tools that are not covered by your district's agreements, check every clinical claim against a source you trust, and never let a draft goal or note go out unread.

How we chose

We make Speech Therapy Magic, so read our own entry with the scepticism you would give any vendor writing about itself. We placed it where we think it honestly fits for this buyer, which is not always first, and every entry, ours included, carries a real limitation.

For this guide we weighed:

  • What the output is: text, a note in your system, or a playable activity
  • How much SLP-specific knowledge it adds over a plain prompt
  • Privacy terms for student data (BAA, school agreements)
  • Price for one SLP and what the free tier allows

Prices were read off each vendor’s own pricing page or App Store listing in October 2026. Where a vendor only quotes on request or shows prices in local currency, we say so rather than print a number we could not check. Nobody paid to be listed, and there are no affiliate links on this page. Found something out of date? Tell us on the contact page.

It depends on the job. For drafting text, a general assistant such as ChatGPT or Claude. For free teacher tools including IEP drafting, MagicSchool. For SOAP notes, an SLP scribe such as SLPFlow or Ambiki's AI Scribe. For building interactive speech activities from a description, Speech Therapy Magic's Magic Studio.
