Buyer’s guide for parents and SLPs •

Best Speech Therapy Apps for Kids (2026)

There is no single best speech therapy app, because a two-year-old who is late to talk and an eight-year-old who still says "wabbit" need different things. These six are ranked by how well each does its own job, with the age and goal it suits written next to it.

The short answer

  1. 1Articulation Station Hive — best for structured articulation drill on an iPhone or iPad. (From $9.99/mo (parent))
  2. 2Speech Blubs — best for toddlers and late talkers learning first words. ($14.99/mo or $59.99/yr)
  3. 3Speech Therapy Magic — best for game-based sound practice with automatic feedback, on any device. ($9.99/mo or $79.99/yr after a 7-day trial)
  4. 4Little Words — best for conversation and language practice for ages 2 to 8. (Free tier; $8.99/mo)
  5. 5Otsimo Speech Therapy — best for simple repetition games for young children with a speech delay. (From $6.99/mo)
  6. 6Splingo — best for early language: following directions, verbs and pronouns. (Free + $0.99 packs)

Under four and not talking much yet? Start with Speech Blubs. Working on one sound with an iPad and an SLP's plan? Articulation Station Hive is the strongest drill app. Want the practice to feel like a game, work on any device and give feedback on each word? That is where Speech Therapy Magic fits.

The 6 picks, reviewed

1

Articulation Station Hive

Best for: structured articulation drill on an iPhone or iPad

Little Bee Speech's articulation app takes a sound from single words through phrases, sentences and stories, with picture cards for every position. An adult listens and marks each attempt right or wrong. Hive replaced the classic Articulation Station, which was retired in December 2024.

Price
Parent plan $9.99/month or $83.99/year (2 children); Pro plan $14.99/month or $119.99/year, both in the App Store with a 14-day free trial. Little Bee's own site lists the same plans as $10 and $15 a month, or $7 and $10 a month billed yearly.
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Apple-silicon Mac. No Android and no web version.

What it does well

  • The most complete articulation hierarchy of any app here
  • Clean, uncluttered drill screens that keep the focus on the sound
  • A parent tier priced for families

Honest limitation: Apple devices only, and it does not judge the sound: the adult decides whether each word was right, which is hard for a parent who is unsure what a correct R sounds like.

2

Speech Blubs

Best for: toddlers and late talkers learning first words

A video-modelling app: the child watches other children say a word or make a sound, then copies them, with filters and rewards to keep it fun. It is built for early words and imitation rather than for correcting one sound.

Price
$14.99/month or $59.99/year on Speech Blubs' own site, with a 7-day free trial (the App Store currently shows the monthly plan at $14.49).
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Android.

What it does well

  • Peer video models are genuinely engaging for under-fives
  • Large library of early vocabulary and sound categories
  • Cheap per month on the annual plan

Honest limitation: It is imitation and vocabulary practice. It does not drill or check a specific sound, so it is the wrong tool for a school-age child working on R, S or L.

3

Speech Therapy MagicOur product

Best for: game-based sound practice with automatic feedback, on any device

Speech Cats, an articulation game in Speech Therapy Magic

Browser games for articulation, language and social skills, built with a licensed SLP. In the speech-sound games a child says each target word into the microphone and gets a score with a sound-by-sound breakdown, and every attempt is saved to the child's progress chart. It covers 23 English consonant sounds in initial, medial and final position, with over 9,000 practice words.

Price
A 7-day free trial of everything with no card needed, then $9.99/month or $79.99/year ($6.67/month billed yearly). There is no free plan.
Platform
Web browser on iPad, iPhone, Android, Chromebook, Mac and PC. No native app yet; it installs to the home screen as a web app.

What it does well

  • Works on Chromebooks, Android tablets and school laptops, not only Apple devices
  • Gives a parent a second opinion on each attempt instead of leaving every call to them
  • Social-skills games (Social Spark, Social Scenes) as well as speech-sound games

Honest limitation: The library is smaller than the big app stores' worth of options, and 3 child profiles are included (extra profiles $4.99/month each). The pronunciation score is a practice signal, not a diagnosis. It scores against a fixed set of speech sounds, so a distortion (an almost-right R, a lisped S) is not reliably told apart from a correct sound, and an adult's ear still decides. Our published benchmark shows where it falls short.

4

Little Words

Best for: conversation and language practice for ages 2 to 8

Speech-practice games in the browser plus Buddy, an AI voice character in the iPhone and iPad app that holds short conversations with the child. Its App Store listing states that it does not evaluate, diagnose or treat.

Price
Free for one activity; Family Plus $8.99/month or $59.99/year; SLP Pro $14.99/month or $119/year. A 7-day trial for first-time members needs a card.
Platform
Web, iPhone and iPad. No Android app.

Honest limitation: Very new (one App Store rating when we checked), and it is conversation practice rather than articulation work, so it will not help much with one stubborn sound.

5

Otsimo Speech Therapy

Best for: simple repetition games for young children with a speech delay

Speech games that, per its own listing, use speech recognition for word and sound repetition exercises aimed at delayed speech and apraxia.

Price
The App Store lists ten price points, from $6.99 to $14.99 a month, $41.99 to $53.99 a year, or $119.99 lifetime, with a 7-day trial on the annual plan. Otsimo's website shows no prices.
Platform
iPhone, iPad and Android.

Honest limitation: The iOS app was last updated in May 2025 and holds a 3.4 rating, and the pricing is confusing, so check which plan you are buying before you subscribe.

6

Splingo

Best for: early language: following directions, verbs and pronouns

A language game for children up to about five, built around following spoken instructions and learning verbs, pronouns, categories and past tense.

Price
Free download with packs at $0.99 each and a $9.99 language assessment, in the App Store.
Platform
iPhone and iPad.

Honest limitation: Language only, with no articulation practice, and it was last updated in June 2025.

Which kind of app does your child need?

Speech apps fall into three families. Articulation apps drill one sound at a time and suit children from about four who have a specific sound to fix. Early-language apps model words and build vocabulary and suit toddlers and late talkers. AAC apps such as Proloquo2Go or TD Snap give a voice to a child who cannot rely on speech, and they are a different decision made with an SLP, so they are not ranked here.

If your child is already seeing an SLP, ask which sounds and which level (single words, phrases, sentences) to practise. Any of the articulation apps above works much better with those targets than without them.

What about free speech therapy apps?

Most of the apps that were once free have either been retired or moved to subscriptions: the free Articulation Station Classic was pulled from the App Store in December 2024. Splingo and Little Words both have usable free starting points. Our word lists for every sound are free with no account, and they work with any app or with no app at all.

How we chose

We make Speech Therapy Magic, so read our own entry with the scepticism you would give any vendor writing about itself. We placed it where we think it honestly fits for this buyer, which is not always first, and every entry, ours included, carries a real limitation.

For this guide we weighed:

  • Whether the app does one job well for a clear age and goal
  • What it costs a family per year, including trials and how many children are covered
  • Which devices it runs on (many families and schools are not on iPads)
  • Whether it is still maintained: when the app was last updated
  • Whether anything checks the child's speech, or an adult must judge every attempt

Prices were read off each vendor’s own pricing page or App Store listing in October 2026. Where a vendor only quotes on request or shows prices in local currency, we say so rather than print a number we could not check. Nobody paid to be listed, and there are no affiliate links on this page. Found something out of date? Tell us on the contact page.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best speech therapy app for kids?
It depends on the goal. For structured articulation drill on an iPad, Articulation Station Hive. For toddlers and late talkers, Speech Blubs. For game-based sound practice that works on any device and scores each word, Speech Therapy Magic. For early language skills such as following directions, Splingo.
Can a speech therapy app replace a speech therapist?
No. An app gives a child more practice between sessions, which is where most progress comes from, but it cannot assess a child, choose the right targets or teach a new sound placement the way an SLP can. Use apps to add practice, not to replace an evaluation.
Is Articulation Station still available?
The classic Articulation Station was retired from the App Store on December 3, 2024. Its replacement is Articulation Station Hive, a subscription app from Little Bee Speech for iPhone, iPad and Apple-silicon Macs.
Which speech therapy apps work on Android or a Chromebook?
Speech Blubs and Otsimo have Android apps. Speech Therapy Magic runs in the browser, so it works on Android tablets, Chromebooks and laptops as well as iPads. Articulation Station Hive and Splingo are Apple-only.
How much does Speech Therapy Magic cost?
Every account starts with a 7-day free trial of everything, with no card needed. After that it is $9.99 a month or $79.99 a year, and you can cancel anytime. There is no free plan.
